Arbella Insurance Group Named One of Boston Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” for 12th Year in a Row

Award recognizes companies that are doing good especially in these difficult times

QUINCY, Mass., July 30, 2020
The Arbella Insurance Group (“Arbella”) has been named as one of the Boston Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” for 2020. The award program recognizes companies of all sizes that stand out for good during a difficult time for the business community. This marks the 12th consecutive year that Arbella has been honored in the extra large business category.

“It is an honor to be recognized as one of the Best Places to Work for 12 years in a row,” said Ellen Mann, assistant vice president of human resources at the Arbella Insurance Group. “At Arbella, we strive to be more than just a place of work for our employees—we are a family. Our employees give their heart and souls to this company. We couldn’t be more proud of the resilience and steadfastness they have shown amid the COVID-19 pandemic and in response to the racial injustices that have come to light recently."

Based in Quincy, Mass., the Arbella Insurance Group is a mutual insurance company that employs more than 1,000 workers in the state of Massachusetts and is affiliated with a network of approximately 500 independent insurance agents across New England. Arbella is deeply committed to providing employees with both professional and personal support. The company was able to move 90% of its workforce to remote work to ensure the safety and health of its employees. Wellness and fitness classes became virtual offerings and our company nurse continued to support employees virtually during the work from home period. Recently, many of Arbella’s employees have gradually returned to the work place and have been welcomed back to a safe, comfortable and supportive work environment.

Arbella strives to foster a hardworking, collaborative and charitable culture beyond the office. Through the Arbella Insurance Foundation, the company and its employees support a wide variety of nonprofit organizations, from disaster and hunger relief to cultural and educational initiatives. In 2019, the Foundation donated more than $2.5 million to support 731 different charitable organizations throughout New England.

The Boston Business Journal’s annual “Best Places to Work” program recognizes 79 extra small, small, medium, large and extra large sized businesses who share their abilities to create appealing workplaces, a goal even more important at a time when the very definition of "workplace" is being rewritten during the coronavirus pandemic. To select the winners, employees from Massachusetts-based companies participate in an anonymous survey that asks about company benefits, atmosphere, values and loyalty. The results are analyzed by a third-party research firm, and the winners are broken down into five categories based on size.
