Arbella Donates $86,000 for Walk for Hunger

300+ Walk Team Members Raise $36,000 for Project Bread

QUINCY, Mass., May 3, 2011 – The Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation was proud to once again be a major corporate sponsor of Project Bread’s annual Walk for Hunger. This year, Arbella’s fourth as a sponsor, more than 310 employees, family members and friends joined together as “Team Arbella,” trekking 20 miles in the country’s oldest continual pledge walk.

The Arbella team raised $36,000 for the cause, making the insurance company the No. 3 top fundraising team in the event. Combined with the Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation’s $50,000 sponsorship, it brings the company’s total donation to $86,000.

“Once again, our employees have shown how dedicated they are to making a difference in the community,” said John Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and chairman and president of Arbella’s charitable foundation. “We know demand is up significantly at local food pantries across the state, so we couldn’t be more proud to help Project Bread raise $3.6 million to help feed needy families.”

The walk, which started in Boston in 1969, begins and ends in Boston Common, with more than 40,000 people participating.

“We are incredibly grateful for Arbella’s contributions,” said Ellen Parker, executive director of Project Bread. “What’s so admirable is that Arbella doesn’t just write a check – they rally their employees to get involved in the walk and make a difference. Their enthusiasm and dedication is impressive, and we are thrilled to call them a partner in this important effort to curb hunger in Massachusetts.”

Employees from Arbella’s Boston, Lakeville, Randolph, Quincy, Springfield and Wakefield, Mass. offices were all in attendance at the 43rd annual Walk for Hunger.
