Arbella Raises $80,000 for 2012 WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon

Funds raised by Arbella employees, independent agents and Arbella Insurance Foundation to Benefit Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

QUINCY, Mass., September 11, 2012 — The Arbella Insurance Foundation ("Arbella") today announced it has raised a total of $80,000 to the 11th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. Since Arbella began supporting the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon in 2008, the Quincy-based company has proudly raised more than $210,000 for the fight against cancer in children and adults at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

This year, Arbella was yet again the proud presenting sponsor of the tote board, which captured the telethon's hourly fundraising success. In addition to the tote board sponsorship, Arbella initiated the "Extra effort to drive out cancer" program, donating $50 for every extra base hit by Red Sox batters. During telethon week, from August 19 - August 25, Arbella doubled the donation amount to $100. Another new way Arbella committed to helping the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon this year was through Facebook. Arbella donated a dollar for every new fan who "liked" Arbella's Facebook page during the month of August. Combined, these initiatives resulted in a $50,000 donation from Arbella's Foundation.

To maximize its contribution, Arbella also offered an agent matching gift program in which the company matched donations to the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon on a two-to-one basis, up to $500 per agency. 38 agents participated this year, raising nearly $24,000 for the cause. Additionally, Arbella Service Company, Inc. employees donated nearly $6,000 through personal donations (matched by the Foundation) and by holding a casual dress day and ice cream social.

Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This year's Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon raised $3.3 million, and since 2002, the event has generated more than $28 million to help raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.

"This year's Radio-Telethon was one of the most successful ever and we were honored to again join our friends at WEEI and NESN in supporting the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber," said John Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and chairman and president of Arbella's Foundation. "I couldn't be more proud of the generosity our employees and independent agents have shown. We're a local company - all of us at Arbella have been touched by cancer in some way and we're proud to be able to support cancer care and research happening right here in our community."

The 2012 WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon began on August 21. Over the span of 36-hours and two Boston Red Sox games, the broadcast featured compelling stories from Dana-Farber patients, doctors, researchers and nurses, celebrity guests and athletes, inspiring people all over the world to support Dana-Farber's mission.
