Arbella Donates $2,000 to Local Animal Shelters

Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation Presents Checks and Supplies to Scituate Animal Shelter and the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts.

QUINCY, Mass., March 7, 2011 The Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation (“Arbella”) is lending its support to two Massachusetts animal shelters with donations of both money and supplies, in an effort to support the organizations through the tough winter months.

“We’re committed to giving back to the communities we serve,” said John Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and chairman and president of the Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation. “So many of us here at Arbella are pet owners, and when we heard about the needs at these shelters, we all wanted to do something to help.”

The nonprofit organizations receiving the donations are the Scituate Animal Shelter and the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts. Each shelter received a check from Arbella for $1,000, as well as supplies including pet food, blankets and office supplies for shelter operations. Donations were collected by Arbella employees during a week-long drive at the company’s Quincy headquarters.

“We’re so proud of the corporate culture here at Arbella,” added Donohue. “Every time we offer our employees the chance to get involved and make a difference for a local charity, they go above and beyond. Many of our employees care deeply about animals in need – that’s obvious from the boxes of generous donations collected during our drive.”

The Scituate Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing exceptional care and proper placement of hundreds of adoptable companion animals each year. Staffers are committed to finding loving homes for every adoptable animal entrusted to their care, no matter how long it takes. The Shelter receives no local, state or federal government funding, and relies entirely upon donations to cover its annual operating expenses. Since its inception 20 years ago, the Shelter has placed more than 5,000 pets in loving homes.

“I am proud to be part of an organization that does everything in its means to provide the best life possible for the four-legged friends in our care,” says Scituate Animal Shelter volunteer and Arbella employee David Cerruti. “I am proud that Arbella offers the opportunity for employees to make such a positive impact on the care of the animals at this facility.”

The Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts, located in Brockton, is a new non-profit organization formed to continue to serve the animals and people of the community. Its mission is preventing cruelty to animals through education and outreach, low-cost spay/neuter programs and helping animals and people in the community.
