QUINCY, Mass., June 20, 2017 The Arbella Insurance Group (“Arbella”) today announced that it has been recognized as one of the Boston Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” for 2017 in the extra large business category, marking the ninth consecutive year the company has been honored. The award program acknowledges businesses with high levels of employee satisfaction and positive workplace cultures.
“It is such an honor to be named a BBJ Best Place to Work for the ninth consecutive year,” said Ellen Mann, director of human resources at the Arbella Insurance Group. “At Arbella, we put employees first. It’s one thing to say that, but we actually do it. Our strategy is to put employees first. The result is stronger relationships with our customers because engaged employees provide better service and hold themselves accountable. They truly care about the work they do.”
The Arbella Insurance Group is a mutual insurance company that employs more than 1000 workers in the state of Massachusetts and is affiliated with a network of approximately 500 independent insurance agents across New England. Arbella is deeply committed to providing its employees with corporate and personal support, such as work-life balance options, onsite health and wellness activities, exclusive access to local cultural events and a variety of educational and professional development programs. These investments in employee well-being and growth has resulted in an impressive retention rate. Employees stay with Arbella for an average of 10 years, and 10 percent of the current workforce has been with Arbella since it was founded nearly 30 years ago.
Arbella is proud to foster a hardworking, collaborative and charitable culture. Employees continuously inspire each other and their communities to be more thoughtful in everyday life, which contributes to the exceptional customer service for which Arbella is known. Through its newly-launched “Spread the Good” campaign, Arbella is on a mission to remind everyone to be on the lookout for opportunities to do something good for others and pass it on.
The company is also known for its commitment to giving back to the communities it serves through the Arbella Insurance Foundation, which supports a wide variety of nonprofit causes and supports Arbella Insurance Group employees as they donate to and volunteer with charitable organizations, both in their personal lives and as part of corporate volunteer activities. This year, Arbella employees celebrated numerous charitable giving partnership milestones, including Team Arbella’s 10th year as a Walk for Hunger corporate fundraising team. A record breaking 554 registered Team Arbella walkers, along with the Foundation, donated $85,000 to the cause.
“Arbella is truly unique in that they encourage community service by offering a variety of volunteer opportunities, giving people like me a way to give back to others,” said Molly Aviles, senior claim specialist. “As a busy mom, I don’t always have the time or flexibility to volunteer as often as I’d like but, as an employee here, I’m able to fulfill a personal passion of helping others through the opportunities Arbella offers. The difference we make in our local communities is incredible.”
The Boston Business Journal’s annual “Best Places to Work” program recognizes 80 extra small, small, medium, large and extra large sized businesses whose benefits and unique initiatives put them ahead on the employee satisfaction curve. To select the winners, employees from Massachusetts-based companies participate in an anonymous survey that asks about company benefits, atmosphere, values and loyalty. The results are analyzed by a third-party research firm, and the winners are broken down into five categories based on size.
The 2017 “Best Places to Work” rankings will be released at a June 22 event at Symphony Hall in Boston.
