Journey Forward Hosts 5th Annual Walk to Support Those with Spinal Cord Injury
Walk highlights the great physical strides those with spinal cord injuries can achieve
CANTON, Mass., October 30, 2014 – Journey Forward, a non-profit organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those who have suffered a spinal cord injury, today announced that it raised $32,000 at the fifth Annual Journey Forward Walk, held Saturday, October 25th at its Canton location. The annual walk challenges Journey Forward clients to reach new mobility goals, while raising funds to increase the availability of treatment at Journey Forward. Twenty-four participants took part in this year’s walk.
The walk is both a fundraiser and a challenge for the Journey Forward community. Clients set goals to challenge the mobility they have gained through Journey Forward’s intensive exercise programs, walking a few steps or even a full lap around the 1/10 of a mile course.
“Twenty-four clients, many of whom were told that they would never walk again, participated in this year’s walk,” said Dan Cummings, founder of Journey Forward. “Each client had his or her own particular goal. Whether it be 15 steps, 1/10 of a mile or even up to two miles, these individuals went out and completed what they were once told was impossible. Here at Journey Forward, nothing is impossible.”
Attendees of the walk were asked to donate $20 in support of Journey Forward. The family-friendly event also included a raffle, silent auction, and pony rides and a moonwalk for children.
This year’s walk was followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony for the TheraStride, a critical new piece of equipment for Journey Forward. The TheraStride was purchased with a grant from the Arbella Insurance Foundation, and will be used as part of the Neurological Recovery Network run by the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Arbella Insurance Group President and CEO John Donohue and Peter Wilderotte, president of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, were both in attendance.
“The Arbella Insurance Foundation has supported Journey Forward since Dan first started the program,” said Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and chairman and president of the Arbella Insurance Foundation. “We have seen firsthand the amazing results the Journey Forward rehab programs offer its clients. This organization truly gives people their lives back and we’re proud to contribute funds for equipment that makes that possible.”
In addition to the funds raised during the walk, the Arbella Insurance Foundation and the Ray Tye Medical Aid Foundation both contributed $5,000 in sponsorship of the event.
