Arbella Raises $34,500 for Breast Cancer Screening
Funds raised at annual “Pink Day” event will help fund Dana-Farber’s
QUINCY, Mass., October 27, 2014 – For the sixth year in a row, Arbella employees have joined forces with the Arbella Insurance Foundation to raise funds to provide cancer screenings and education for medically underserved populations through the work of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
At the sixth Annual Pink Day event, held on October 20, Arbella employees raised nearly $17,250 for Dana-Farber. Those funds were matched by the Arbella Insurance Foundation for a total donation of $34,500. The contributions will support Dana-Farber’s Mammography Van community visits in 2015, as well as Dana-Farber’s Blum Family Resource Center Van stops, which provide prostate cancer screening and education, and skin cancer screening.
Founded in 2009, Pink Day is the creation of Arbella employee Dot Olson. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Olson underwent treatment with Dana-Farber. It was her experience with the institute that inspired her to create “Pink Day.” The inception of Pink Day has been instrumental in furthering Dana-Farber’s mission to garner continued support for breast cancer awareness and research. As Pink Day has grown, the event has been placed in the hands of the Arbella Activities Committee (AAC), a group of employees who are committed to promoting a culture of teamwork and camaraderie through corporate citizenship and, more importantly, fun.
To show their support during the Pink Day event, Arbella employees wear pink to work, donate money to dress casually, purchase Dana-Farber bracelets, and contribute to and participate in departmental gift basket drawings.
All of the proceeds go directly to Dana-Farber to support their efforts and research advancements. To date, Pink Day has raised more than $110,000 for cancer treatment and research.

As the only mobile mammography program in Massachusetts, Dana-Farber’s Mammography Van provides medically-eligible women of 40 years and older the opportunity to partake in mammograms and breast health education free of charge. The Mammography Van partners with community-based organizations and neighborhood health centers in its mission to decrease breast cancer morbidity and mortality among medically-underserved women and increase survival rates for those diagnosed with breast cancer. Jacquelyn Callahan, assistant director of corporate partnerships, and Magnolia Contreras, director of the Community Benefits Program for Dana-Farber, visited Arbella’s Quincy headquarters during the Pink Day event to thank employees for their continued support and generosity.

“Every single person I met between Dana-Farber and Faulkner Hospital treated me with kindness, compassion, and respect,” said Julie Tympanick, a Dana-Farber cancer survivor who spoke at the Pink Day event. “Now when I go to Dana-Farber I say thank God I found this place. I have gratitude because the people are the most amazing people in the entire world. I never liked the cancer survivor label; I like to be the Dana-Faber cancer success story.”
