Award recognizes employee satisfaction and positive workplace culture
QUINCY, Mass., June 2, 2014 The Arbella Insurance Group”) today announced that it has been recognized as one of the Boston Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” for 2014. The award program recognizes small, medium and large-sized companies with high levels of employee satisfaction and positive workplace cultures. This marks the sixth consecutive year that the company has been honored in the large business category.
Based in Quincy, Mass., the Arbella Insurance Group is a mutual insurance company that employs over 900 workers in the state and is affiliated with a network of approximately 500 independent insurance agents. Arbella prides itself on its commitment to employees and its strong retention rate, with 60 percent of Arbella employees staying with the company for five or more years, and more than 31 percent for at least 15 years. The company is known for its exceptional customer service and its commitment to giving back to the communities and people it serves through its Charitable Foundation.
“We are so honored to be recognized as one of the Best Places to Work for six years running,” said Gayle O’Connell, senior vice president of human resources and marketing communications at the Arbella Insurance Group. “We strive to be more than just a place of work for our employees—we are truly a family. We are dedicated to creating a company culture where our employees feel valued and empowered, to do great work here at Arbella and to create positive change in their community. We are so proud of our team at Arbella.”
Arbella’s commitment to its employees has led to an unparalleled company culture. Arbella is committed to fostering a considerate and collaborative culture that extends far beyond ones paycheck and benefits. In addition to providing work-life balance options, learning and development opportunities and a variety of health-related benefits, Arbella promotes an environment of teamwork and charitable giving.
Whether they are volunteering at local homeless shelters, walking to raise money for cancer research or participating in fundraising events such as the Walk for Hunger, Arbella employees are dedicated to giving back to their communities. And Arbella’s mission of corporate citizenship runs not only through the insurance group itself, but also through Arbella’s partner agents, who are encouraged to support the charities that are important to their communities.
Last fall, Arbella organized on a particularly remarkable charitable program in honor of its 25th anniversary and the great importance the company places on giving back. Through the “50 to 25” program, the Arbella Insurance Foundation awarded one-time grants of $50,000 to 25 local charities throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut. The 25 charities were chosen based on proposals submitted by Arbella’s own employees, independent insurance agents and longtime charitable partners. The selected charities provide social services, health services or education, and the donation totaled $1,250,000.
Arbella also hosted a 25th anniversary party for all employees at Gillette Stadium, giving everyone a day off to celebrate their hard work that has built the company into what it is today. Employees were rewarded with a day of food, dancing, Patriots meet-and-greets, and thank-you speeches from the executive team.
In addition to workplace fun, Arbella employees also enjoy the stable environment of a financially strong organization that, even in a slow economy, continues to achieve excellent financial results. The insurance industry offers stability and a broad spectrum of employment opportunities, and Arbella offers employees ongoing training to continue to advance their industry skills.
“Arbella provides so many amazing opportunities to its employees,” said Jessica DeMita. “Arbella provides excellent compensation and benefits, but more even more importantly Arbella empowers its employees. From Arbella University training opportunities, to the tuition reimbursement program, to encouraging employees to pursue their passions, Arbella goes above and beyond. I am honored to work at such a giving workplace where I feel so valued.”
Each year, the Boston Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” program recognizes 60 small, medium and large-size businesses whose benefits and unique initiatives put them ahead on the employee satisfaction curve. To select the winners, employees from nearly 300 Massachusetts-based companies participate in an anonymous survey that asks about company benefits, atmosphere, values and loyalty. The results are analyzed by a third-party research firm, and the winners are broken down into three categories based on size.
The “Best Places to Work” rankings will be announced at a June 12th awards celebration at the Citi Performing Arts Center.
