Arbella Donates $110,500 to Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger, Celebrates Sixth Year as Major Corporate Sponsor

“Team Arbella” Walkers Contribute $60,500 to 45th Annual Event

QUINCY, Mass., May 9, 2013 — For the sixth year in a row, The Arbella Insurance Foundation proudly served as a major corporate sponsor for Project Bread’s annual Walk for Hunger on Sunday, May 5. A record 498 registered Team Arbella walkers, including Arbella Insurance Group employees, family members and friends, took part in the annual hunger relief and prevention walk, which covers 20 miles through the streets of Boston, Brookline and Newton. This year’s Walk raised $3.1 million to support the 700,000 people in Massachusetts who are currently food insecure.

Team Arbella raised $60,500 for the cause, making the company the Walk’s top corporate organization and top fundraising team. Combined with the Arbella Insurance Foundation’s $50,000 sponsorship, the company’s overall donation totaled $110,500.

“The Walk for Hunger has a special place in our hearts,” said Jenn Reale, walk captain of Team Arbella. “It’s become a much-loved tradition here at Arbella. It’s a way for us to bond as a team while we work together to make a real difference in the fight against hunger. We’re just so proud to be able to contribute to a cause that’s so meaningful and that helps people right in our communities.”

“Year after year, we are humbled by the generous contributions of all of our walkers and sponsors,” said Ellen Parker, executive director of Project Bread. “Over the past six years, Arbella has illustrated a real commitment to the community with its focus on ending hunger in Massachusetts. They donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Walk, encourage employees to get involved, match their donations and support our Chefs in Schools program for improving school food. Arbella has a huge presence at The Walk for Hunger and this year they stepped up again with strength and resolve. We are grateful for their dedication to the cause and proud to partner with them.”

Employees from Arbella’s Boston, Bridgewater, Randolph, Quincy, Springfield, Wakefield and Connecticut offices participated in the 45th annual Walk for Hunger. The event, which started in Boston in 1969, is the country’s oldest continual pledge walk. It begins and ends in Boston Common, with more than 40,000 people participating each year.
