Arbella Raises $40,000 for Breast Cancer Screening

Funds raised at annual “Pink Day” event will help fund Dana-Farber’s Community Benefits Program

QUINCY, Mass., November 18, 2015 – For the seventh year in a row, Arbella Insurance Group employees have joined forces with the Arbella Insurance Foundation to raise funds to provide cancer screenings and education for medically underserved populations through the work of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Arbella employees’ donations were matched by the Arbella Insurance Foundation for a total donation of $40,000 at the annual Pink Day event, held Oct. 28.

Founded in 2009, Pink Day is the creation of Arbella employee Dot Olson, who underwent treatment at Dana-Farber after being diagnosed with breast cancer. It was her experience with the Institute that inspired her to create Pink Day. The annual event has been instrumental in furthering Dana-Farber’s mission to garner continued support for breast cancer awareness and research. The event has been placed in the hands of the Arbella Activities Committee (AAC), a group of employees who are committed to promoting a culture of teamwork and camaraderie through corporate citizenship and fun. Thanks to the AAC’s dedication, Pink Day continues to gain momentum and has become an event employees look forward to year-round.

During the Pink Day event, Arbella employees wear pink to work, purchase Dana-Farber bracelets, donate money to dress casually, and contribute to and participate in departmental gift basket drawings to show their support. The contributions from this year’s event will support Dana-Farber’s Mammography Van community visits in 2016, as well as Dana-Farber’s Blum Family Resource Center Van stops, which provide prostate cancer screening and education and skin cancer screening. To date, Pink Day has raised more than $183,500 for cancer awareness and screening.

Dana-Farber’s Mammography Van provides medically-eligible women of 40 years and older the opportunity to partake in mammograms and breast health education free of charge. As the only mobile mammography program in Massachusetts, the Mammography Van partners with community-based organizations and neighborhood health centers in its mission to decrease breast cancer morbidity and mortality among medically-underserved women and increase survival rates for those diagnosed with breast cancer.

Magnolia Contreras, director of the Community Benefits Program for Dana-Farber, visited Arbella’s Quincy headquarters during the Pink Day event to thank employees for their continued support and generosity.
