Every day, we hear about teens dying behind the wheel because of texting and driving. Distracted driving affects us all, but is proving to be especially lethal for young, inexperienced drivers. If you’re a parent of a newly licensed driver, it must worry you—and it worries us.
Rather than just talking about distracted driving, we decided to do something about it. Distractology 101 is a free training program currently offered by the Arbella Insurance Foundation, Inc. This unique mobile simulator, which is currently touring New England, was designed by The University of Massachusetts, to train and educate new drivers about the dangers of Distracted Driving.
The program combines Web-based training with 45 minutes of hands-on instructional learning behind the wheel of a simulated car console. Any driver, licensed for three or fewer years or who has their learner’s permit, is eligible for this free training.
Since the Distractology 101 began in 2009, insurance agents all over New England have volunteered their time to host the tour and hundreds of students have completed the training. To learn more, go to www.distractu.com.
